Marylea Carr Obituary

Marylea Benware Carr, age 66, of Denver, CO and Glen Ellyn, passed away October 12, 2011 in Lombard after six years of battling aggressive, early on-set dementia. Marylea was born June 2, 1945 in Hinsdale, IL to the late Harold and Evelyn Benware. She most recently held teaching positions at Metropolitan State College of Denver. Previous positions included, PR for Sherman Hospital in Elgin where she helped to start up their Women's Center, former editor at Wheaton Daily Journal and Lifestyle Editor for the Elgin Courier News. Marylea graduated from the University of Illinois and received her masters degree at Mankato State in Minnesota. She is survived by her two children, Margaret Carr Giffin (Bill) of Glen Ellyn and Jeffrey Frank Carr Jr. (Stephanie) of Houston. Six grandchildren, Madeline, Grace and Carson Giffin and JT, Aidan and Calista Carr. Brother Harold Benware (Nancy) of Scottsdale, AZ and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Elizabeth Benware Ruckrich. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 20th from 4:30 to 8:30pm with a memorial service at 7:30pm at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to Northwestern's Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease Center in Marylea's name. Service info 630-469-0032.
