Mary E. Williams

Born: Nov. 3, 1918

Died: Oct. 11, 2014

Mary E. "Betty" Williams, age 95, former resident of Western Springs for more than 85 years, died on Saturday, October 11, 2014, from congestive heart failure.

Betty, as her friends called her, was born on November 3, 1918, grew up in Western Springs, married Donald K. Williams on August 31, 1940, and lived on Johnson Ave. for 65 more years. She and Donald were married for 73 years when he passed away on March 3, 2014.

Her brother, Henry (Bud) Perkins predeceased her.

Betty is survived by her son, Donald L. Williams of Lombard, IL; and her daughter, Marcia (Williams) Sharp of Nipomo, CA; as well as 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Betty will be remembered for her loving nature, her wonderful gardening skills, and her contributions to the Western Springs community and Congregational Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, Chapter member and officer, wedding committee member, rummage sale volunteer, Woman's Society officer and member, and "grandma" volunteer at the nursery school, to name a few.

A memorial service is planned at The First Congregational Church of Western Springs, 1106 Chestnut Street on Sunday, November 9, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel.
