Mary Trout Obituary

Mary Caspers Trout
Born: September 5, 1942 in Chicago, IL
Died: December 7, 2025 in Gold Canyon, AZ
Mary Ray Caspers Trout, 83, of Lee's Summit, MO, and Gold Canyon, AZ, formerly of LaGrange, IL, was born to William and Ruth Peterson Caspers on Sept. 5, 1942, in Evanston, IL.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in the future in LaGrange, IL.
Mary Ray graduated from Rich Township High School in Park Forest, IL, in 1960, and MacMurray College in 1964 (BA). She married Richard (Dick) Trout on June 18, 1965. Considered an invaluable mentor to hundreds of children in Brookfield, Countryside, LaGrange, LaGrange Park, and Western Springs, IL, Mary taught elementary school for 25 years and volunteered throughout her life. She was a longtime volunteer at the Brookfield Zoo Gift Store and served as the coordinator of the St. Cletus youth newsletter. Mary also volunteered at St. Francis Catholic Church, Ogden School in LaGrange, and the Cub Scouts. She helped her teenage son, Rich, obtain a position with a professional artist in Hinsdale, IL, that lasted three years. Rob always thought it was funny when she would dress Brutus up in a blue and yellow outfit and bring him to Rob's soccer games, and be one of the loudest cheerleaders. Mary not only regularly attended Oak Park River Forest baseball and soccer games, but she also cheered them on with her unfailing "woo-woos" as a die-hard fan-unless, of course, they played Lyons Township High School in the 1980s.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard David Trout; her sons, Richard of Jackson, MO, and Robert Trout of Lee's Summit, MO; her brothers, Dan Caspers (Jane) of Paris, TN, Mike Caspers of Phoenix, AZ, and Ed Caspers (Karen) of Chicago, IL, and her grandchildren, Emma, Matt, and Evan Trout.
Mary Ray was a talented quilter and prolific book reader and was gifted with a delightful sense of humor and unswaying passion for helping others. With her family by her side, Mary was honored with the Golden Apple Award as a Chicago-area second-grade teacher.
She will be missed by 30+ cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and former students.
