Mary Damon Obituary

Mary Jane Damon died peacefully on February 10, 2010 in Dallas, Texas. Born on September 26, 1917, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Charles and Dorothy Hunt, she was an only child and dearly loved by her parents and aunt, Bonta Hannan. Jane attended Iowa State University one year before joining the love of her life, Frederic Thomas Damon in marriage in Oklahoma where he had moved from Council Bluffs to study geology and petroleum engineering at the University of Oklahoma. They shared 39 loving years together before his death in 1977. With the exception of briefly living in Bartlesville, Shawnee and Houston, they lived and raised their 3 daughters in Oklahoma City. Fred and Janie were active and long time members of Westminster Presbyterian Church and enjoyed many wonderful friendships and summers at Grand Lake. Jane was involved in several clubs and volunteer activities, loved to read, travel and play Mahjong with her friends, but her greatest joy was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Frederic Hunt Damon. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Ottinger and husband Jack of Boca Raton, FL, Rebecca Burgett and husband Rick of Dallas, TX, and Barbara Hill and husband Patrick of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Lisa Ottinger Boyle and husband Bob, Bonnie Burgett, Carter Burgett, Cameron Hill and Laura Jane Hill; and great granddaughters, Elli and Caroline Boyle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N. Shartel, Oklahoma City, OK 73118. A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 15, at 1:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
