Marjorie McDevitt Obituary

Marjorie Anne McDevitt
Born: October 17, 1924 in Evanston, IL
Died: February 8, 2025 in Western Springs, IL
Marjorie Anne McDevitt (née Erickson), age 100, beloved wife of the late Joseph R. McDevitt, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, in her home in Western Springs, Illinois. Born on October 17, 1924, in Evanston, she lived a life of faith, love, and generosity.
Marge's faith formation began at her grammar school, St. Nicholas, and later St. Scholastica Academy, both in Evanston. She earned a teaching degree from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. She found joy in teaching at her alma mater, St. Scholastica, before dedicating her life to what she loved most-raising her family.
Together, Joe and Marge built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith-a place where everyone was welcome. Marjorie found happiness in life's simple pleasures: playing bridge, traveling with Joe, watching Lake Michigan sunsets in Grand Beach, participating in Bible studies, and gathering with loved ones. A devoted Notre Dame football fan, she cheered passionately for the Fighting Irish, but nothing made her happier than hearing of the endeavors of her family.
Above all, Marjorie cherished her family. She had a special way of making each person feel loved and celebrated, always showing interest in their lives.
Her children include: Anne McDevitt, Joe (Rita) McDevitt, Cathy (the late Otto) Zollondz, Thomas (the late) McDevitt, Margaret (James) O'Connor, Jack (Doris) McDevitt, Jim (Jane) McDevitt, Mary Jean Gengo, Susan (David) Lockie, Michael (DeeDee) McDevitt, and Maureen (Kevin) Troke; her grandchildren: Mary (Dave) Neberieza, Katherine (Cal) Engel, Joseph (Tiffany) McDevitt, Michael (Victoria) McDevitt, Megan Martin, Matthew Zollondz, Claire Zollondz, Beth (Matt) Pezdek, Jimmy (LaTese) O'Connor, Caitlin O'Connor, Catherine McDevitt, Patrick (Megan) Gengo, Kevin (Jessica) Gengo, Michael (Stephanie) Gengo, Eddie (Chloe) Gengo, Henry, Daniel, Freddie, and Bridget Lockie; Luke and Colin McDevitt; Megan and Ryan Troke; and her great-grandchildren: Hannah, Eleanor, and Meredith Neberieza; Elliot and Henry Engel; Joseph and Thomas McDevitt; Emma McDevitt; Jack, Owen, and Kate Martin; Ansley Zollondz; Joseph and Bennett Pezdek; James Joseph IV, Callie, and Belle O'Connor; Mary Grace and Thomas Gengo; Caleb and Eli Gengo, MacKenzie and Grayson Gengo. Marjorie's passing will be deeply felt by her many nieces and nephews, as well as the countless others who were blessed to know her.
She is reunited in eternal peace with her husband, Joseph; her parents, Anne and Fred Erickson; her brother, Bob Erickson; her son, Thomas; and her son-in-law, Otto Zollondz.
