Marian Faith Obituary
Sister Marian (formerly Sister Regis) Faith, OSB, 91, St. Scholastica Monastery, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at the Monastery. Sister Marian entered the Duluth Benedictine community in 1930 and professed monastic vows in 1931. Born October 28, 1911, in Sparta, Minn., Sister Marian lived in that area until coming to Duluth. She attended Gilbert Elementary School and was graduated from Gilbert High School. After graduation she enrolled at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth and entered the Benedictine community during her sophomore year. Sister Marian completed a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education at the College of St. Scholastica and took additional course work at Duluth State Teachers' College, Superior State Teachers' College, and the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. She also participated in numerous workshops throughout her teaching career. During her fifty-two years in the field of education, Sister Marian taught at the following schools: St. Bridget's, Minneapolis; St. James, St. Anthony, St. Margaret Mary, St. Peter, all in Duluth; St. Timothy, Chicago; St. Mary, Pine City; Holy Name, Wayzata; and Assumption, Hibbing. She spent one year as prefect of boys at the former St. James Children's Home, Duluth. The first year after her retirement from teaching, Sister Marian was an assistant activity director for Benet Hall at the Monastery. Since her full retirement in 1987, Sister Marian has been engaged in prayer ministry. Sister Marian was preceded in death by her parents John A. and Sadie (Kantor) Faith; brothers John and Victor; and sister Sister Amelia, OSB. She is survived by the sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery; brother Rev. Rudolph Faith, Duluth; sisters Margaret (Robert) Prosen, Mountain Iron, Minn., Virginia (Harry) Richardson, Minneapolis, and Anna Rose (Samuel) McQuaid, Jonesboro, Ga; and by other relatives. SERVICES: A wake service will be held Monday, April 14, at 7 p.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, St. Scholastica Monastery, with visitation following until 9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 15, at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel with Rev. Muwonge Expedito presiding. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Memorials to St. Scholastica Monastery are preferred.
