Margarethe Wagner Obituary

Passed away peacefully at Maplewood Nursing Home on Tues., Oct. 19, 2010. Born January 6, 1930 in Saalbach, Austria. She worked in Nottingham, England and Zurich, Switzerland before immigrating to Canada in 1954, where she lived in both Ottawa and Hamilton. In 1965, she settled in Rochester, NY with her husband and daughter. Greti enjoyed caring for others, especially children and the elderly in her respective roles an an au pair and nurse's aide. Greti lived life to the fullest—traveling, gardening, downhill skiing, and singing (yodeling). In particular, Greti earned an infamous reputation for throwing a good Bier Radi Party and offering Austrian schnapps to her many friends.

Predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Hans. She is survived by her daughter, Renee (Ken) Desrosiers and grandchildren, Michelle and Colin; son, Gerald (Marsha) Sibble and their children, Katie (Dennis) Jones, Dan and Adam; sisters, Resi (Paul) Sibble, Sophie Hermann, Annie Steiner; sister-in-law, Greti Steger-Lossberger; numerous nieces and nephews. The family of Greti would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Maplewood Nursing Home for their exceptional care and dedication.

A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 P.M. Fri., Jan. 7, 2011 at White Haven Memorial Park, All Seasons Chapel. A celebratory dinner will follow at Mario's Restaurant, 2740 Monroe Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Golisano Children's Hospital, Attn: Michael P. Fahy, 300 E. River Rd., P.O. Box 278996, Rochester, New York 14627. (Please write Greti's name on memo line of check)
