Margaret Gross Obituary

Margaret "Marge" Gross, born December 20, 1933 was called to heaven on June 29, 2009. For over a year she fought a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer, finally succumbing to the disease surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard "Butch" Gross. They were married for 50 years at the time of his death in 2002. Survivors include her three children, Diane (Robert) Felton, Raymond (Shari) Gross and Nanci (Richard) Gannon. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Katrina (Brandon) Felton-Fifer, Christopher (Erin) Gross, Jacqueline (Trevor) Garretson, Julia Felton and Alicia Felton; two great-grandchildren, Tristan Fifer and Analiese Garretson; Siblings, Lloyd (Darlene) Schooley, Charlene Lee and Donna Krause. Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a special friend of 68 years, Joyce Mejdrech. Marge had a lot of friendships that spanned many years. Marge was a resident of Downers Grove since 1956. She retired from Hollister-Stier/Bayer Corporation in 1996 after 31 years. She was a member of the Downers Grove Junior Women's Club from 1963-1972, holding several committee chairmanships. She was also active at Bethel Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council, was chairman of the stewardship, Evangelism and Mission committee and was Guild president. As an auxiliary member at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Marge served as a volunteer as well as on the Ways and Means Committee. Marge loved to travel, had visited 5 continents, Europe being her favorite destination and Hawaii her favorite winter spot. She loved and adored her family and will be missed very much. Visitation Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 2-9 p.m. at Toon Funeral Home, 4920 Main St., Downers Grove. Lying in state at Bethel Lutheran Church, Westmont on July 3, 2009 from 10 until time of service, 11 a.m. Entombment Chapel Hill West, Oakbrook Terrace, IL. How sad we were to hear of Margaret's passing. Please know that we are thinking of all the family and pray that God will give each of you comfort in the days to come. Although we didn't see each other much as the years passed I will always remember her genuine caring spirit.
