Mae Doubek Obituary

Mae Hosticka Doubek

Born: March 12, 1917

Died: August 22, 2017

Mae Hosticka Doubek of Lombard, IL, died peacefully at Beacon Hill Senior Living on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, after a full and healthy life of over 100 years.

As a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mae was the revered matriarch of an extended family with Czech roots. She was a friend to many and will be remembered for her smile, sociability, and sense of humor, as well as her kindness and sense of fairness.

Mae was born on March 12, 1917, in Chicago, daughter of immigrants Frank and Anna Kozeny Hosticka.

In addition to her parents, Mae was pre-deceased by her husband of 65 years, John Doubek; brothers, William A. Hosticka and Jaroslav F. Hosticka; sister, Sylvia M. Cosentino; nephews, William E. Hosticka and Robert J. Hosticka; and niece, Susan Hosticka.

Mae grew up in Chicago, Lyons, and Brookfield, IL, and she first learned to speak English in kindergarten. She attended J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero and worked for some years at Sears, Roebuck and Co. Mae and John married in 1939 and lived in Berwyn until moving to Riverside in 1953. She made a home for him and their sons, while John built the Doubek Cookie Company. In Riverside, she volunteered for the Infant Welfare Society and her sons' schools, and Mae and John took up golfing and traveling. She remained proud of her Czech heritage, and her proficiency in the language was lauded by her relatives in Czechoslovakia. Mae and John moved to Oak Brook in 1972, where they continued their active lives.

Mae is survived by sister, Eleanor A. Kolar; sons, John A. Doubek and Robert W. Doubek (Christine C. Bedoret); granddaughter, Jennifer L. Doubek; grandsons, James K. Doubek, Jeffrey A. Doubek (Rebecca), and Joseph K. Doubek; great-granddaughters, Ava I. Doubek, Charlie Mae Doubek, and Gracie B. Simmons; great-grandson, Max E. Doubek; nieces, Carolyn A. Bonistalli (Jeffery J.), Ellen L. Orndorf (Richard J.), Laurel A. Kolar, and Linda S. Miller (Joseph B.); and nephews, Jerry Hosticka, Joseph A. Cosentino, Paul A. Cosentino (Nuran Gokturk), Robert A. Cosentino, and Thomas C. Kolar (Sarah Arneson).

A memorial event will be held at a later date.

Donations in Mae's memory may be made to the American Friends of the Czech Republic, 4410 Massachusetts Ave., NW, #391, Washington, DC 20016-5572.

My Aunt Mae was a wonderful and beautiful person. She was my mother's sister; I always thought that my mother looked up to Mae as we all did. We will miss her greatly. This picture has always been a favorite of mine; in 1940 with husband John Doubek.
