Lydia Carlson Obituary
Lydia Mae Carlson&bb& Lydia Mae Carlson, born on October 8, 1908 in Alexejewka, Kherson District, near Odessa, Ukraine, died in Everett, WA on July 4, 2001.&pe&Carl and Katrena Neubauer, her parents, were German immigrants to the Ukraine. Lydia was baptized in the St. Petersburg Evangelical Lutheran Consistory on October 18, 1908. The family fled the Ukraine in 1909 with the onset of the Russian Revolution. She, her parents, brother Karl and three sisters, Clara, Louise and Emilia immigrated to the United States in 1909 and settled in Aberdeen, SD. Sisters Leona and Viola were born following arrival in the U.S. Her father was killed in a railroad accident and her mother died shortly thereafter leaving the children orphaned. Lydia became a naturalized U.S. citizen on May 7, 1934. She married Joel Carlson of Everett in Seattle on August 28, 1931.&pe&All her siblings and husband have preceded her in death.&pe&She leaves three sons, Joel of Camano Island, Paul of Bend, OR and Bruce of Snohomish.&pe&Lydia and Joel were active in the South Everett Community. They owned and operated Carlson's Grocery on Peck's Drive from 1945 to 1965. They were charter members of the Madison Grade School PTA and Boy Scout Troop 15, Explorer Post 15, and Cub Scout Pack 15. They helped organize the South Everett Little League, South Everett Lions and Lady Lions, Volunteer Fire Department District No. 6 and the Beverly Park Youth Center. Lydia continued through her 91st year playing cards with the "Cady Ladies", a group of long standing friends. Lydia will be long remembered by friends and family for her sense of humor, her good counsel, her warmth and caring, and for her endless love. &pe&She is survived by her sons; their wives, Susan, Judy, and Nikki; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.&pe&Remembrances in honor of Lydia can be made to the Salvation Army which clothed and fed her as an orphan, to the Bethany of the Northwest Foundation whose staff lovingly cared for her in her final days, or to the American Cancer Society.&pe&A funeral service will be held at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home, 1702 Pacific Avenue, Everett at 11:00am on Saturday, July 7, 2001. A private graveside service for family will be held immediately following the funeral at Cypress Lawn Cemetery Chapel.
