Loy Tetzloff Obituary

Reverend Loy Robin Tetzloff, 77, of Bolingbrook, IL passed away peacefully November 24, 2012. A former long-time resident of Columbus, he was born on a farm in Colwell, Iowa on January 30, 1935. He graduated from the U. of Northern Iowa. Following that he served as a teacher/missionary for two years in the South Pacific, on the island of Pohnpei, Micronesia, and later did missionary work in South America and China. He was ordained in the United Church of Christ and served as Campus Minister for the United Christian Center on the Ohio State University Campus in the 60's and 70's, where he helped countless young men and women adjust to the turmoil of the times. He marched with Dr. King on Washington in 1963, and made tours to register African-American voters in the South in the 60's. Robin later served as Director of Refugees Services for the Ohio Council of Churches, where he was responsible for helping immigrants from around the globe find homes and jobs. Later still he served as Director of the Church World Service CROP Walk in Ohio, helping to feed the hungry around the world. He worked in a similar position in Chicago, until his retirement. Robin was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ, most recently at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Downers Grove, IL, where he sang in the choir. Robin is survived by his wife, Gypsy Martine-Tetzloff; four children, John, Sarah, Maia, and Nathan; his brother, Philip; and sisters, Sharon Byers and Mary Appleby. Services will be held Wednesday, November 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fullerton Funeral Home in Charles City, Iowa. A memorial service will also be held in The First Congregational United Church of Christ in Downers Grove, IL at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30. It was my pleasure to work with CWS/CROP during the years that Robin did. His energy, compassion and sense of humor were always enviable. I looked forward to the rare times when the national staff gathered for it gave me the opportunity to be in Robin's presence and to learn from him.

I don't think Robin ever realized how much it helped when I was in an auto accident and waiting in the emergency room. He was able to bring Tyberia to the hospital and helped to keep me calm down while Ty and I were both close to freaking out. He helped to keep me focused at a time when things seemed desperate.

Gypsy and Family,
My thoughts and prayers fo out to each of you. I have good memories of the times we spent together at the Linn Reunions. My 1st memory of Robin is when I was 12 at Aunt Alice's home where he and I had a deep talk about the Savior. He didn't treat me as a child, but listened to my thoughts and shared his. I always appreciated this. He was a great and caring man who will me missed. May God give you comfort at this time. Love to you all.
