Louis Acosta Obituary

Louis Joseph 'Louie' Acosta
Born: October 20, 1929
Died: January 23, 2025
A native Chicagoan, Louis Joseph "Louie" Acosta, was born at home on 14th and Halsted on October 20, 1929. Just four days before "Black Thursday," the dramatic crash of the stock market, and the beginning of the Great Depression. As a boy, he sold matches at the market that was known as Maxwell Street. He worked various jobs growing up and as an adult became a master carpet installer. He took pride in his work and could make carpet appear like a smooth stream flowing down a spiral staircase. He served as an army medic and was stationed at Ft. Collins, Co. and in Stuttgart, Germany.
On January 25, 1950, he married the love of his life, Connie. They were married 68 years until Connie passed at age 91. They raised four children, Hope, Rick, Martha, and Louie Jr. on the near southwest side and in Berwyn. They moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico to enjoy a sunny warm retirement before joining their son in Wenatchee, Washington.
Although a south-sider, Louie was an avid Cubs fan. He also enjoyed cheering on da Bears. Known for his witticisms, his sense of humor burst through. He had a great voice and loved to sing often at parties and events. Louie was a practicing Catholic. Connie and he would always say a rosary as they embarked on road trips.
He was preceded in death by his son, Louie Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Hope of Arlington, Texas, son, Rick (Kay) of Wenatchee, Washington, and daughter, Martha of Chicago. Numerous grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church, 2127 W. 22nd Pl. in Chicago on March 20th at 10 am followed by interment at St. Mary's Cemetery (87th & Hamlin) and a luncheon.
