Loren Gilmore Obituary

Loren D. Gilmore, age 89, a resident of Glen Ellyn for 54 years, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Beacon Hill in Lombard. Loren was born December 26, 1919 on the family farm in Covington, IN where he was raised. Loren received his Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University and MBA from the University of Chicago. He was employed by International Harvester for 30 years, and traveled the world as a sought after consultant for computer systems. He was an Army Major during WWII serving in field artillery for 5 years and with the occupation forces in Europe where he served as the city engineer in Bologna, Italy. Loren enjoyed growing flowers, tending the yard, taking care of his home and classical music. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66½ years, Mary Ann; loving children John (Nina) of Fort Bragg, CA, Laurie (William) Perkins of Elk Grove Village, Donald (Henrietta) of New Providence, NJ and Scott of Chicago. Dear grandchildren David (Jennifer) Carson, Holly (Joseph) DeFalco, Loren, Matthew, Emily & Sarah Gilmore and great-grandson Daniel Carson. He was the fond uncle of many nieces & nephews. Visitation held Saturday, May 9, 2009, 10am until time of funeral service 11am at the Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn. Interment Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton. In Mr. Gilmore's memory the family suggests that donations be the planting of a tree or flower, do a kindness for a neighbor, or adopt a dog from a shelter.
