Liane De Sitter Obituary

Liane M. De Sitter was born on August 14, 1925, to Alphonse and Angele Van Lysebettens, in Gent, Belgium. In 1937, she immigrated to the U.S. with her parents and siblings, Henriette "Yet" and Robert "Bob". She attended grammar schools at St. Patrick's Academy, Momence, IL and St. Ita's, Chicago; she graduated from Senn High School, Chicago, IL in 1943. Liane worked for a time as a social worker while attending Northwestern University. Her love of art drew her to take courses at the Art Institute in downtown Chicago. Liane met the love of her life, Louis "Lou" De Sitter, while the two were students at Northwestern University. They were happily married from February 18, 1950 until Lou's death on October 28, 1980. They lived until 1968 on the south side of Chicago in Hyde Park for 1 year and South Shore neighborhoods for 17 years. Here all ten of their children were born. In the summer of 1968, the family moved to Downers Grove where Liane resided until her death on January 26, 2010. Liane's focus was always us, her family. Her gifts of love and her Catholic faith were so strong that they have touched us all, forever. She encouraged the uniqueness in each of us, and always seemed to know what we needed. She combined tough love and unconditional love effectively. She listened to us. She gave of herself unselfishly. Liane was easy and fun to be with! She loved dancing and music, old movies, art and crafts! In her later years, she enjoyed yard work, creating a park around her home! She was passionate about going to Hawaii! We were so fortunate to have her in our lives; she will be praying for us until every one of us is with her in eternal life! Liane was preceded in death by her beloved husband Louis "Lou" De Sitter; loving mother to Louis (Linda) De Sitter, Edward (Anita) De Sitter, Mary (Jim) Kucharski, Steven (Therese) De Sitter, Jackie De Sitter (Norm) Krock, Cathy (Tom) Bajek, Ann (Walt) Noonan, Jalyn De Sunae, John (Chris) De Sitter and Carol (Mike) Shroka; cherished grandmother of 35 and great grandmother of 2; dear sister of Henriette Leahy and Robert Van Lysebettens; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Visitation Friday 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m at Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St. (1 blk. So. of Ogden Ave.) Downers Grove. Family and Friends will meet Saturday at St. Mary of Gostyn Church, Prairie & Douglas Sts. for 10:00 a.m. Mass. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. 630-968-1000 or www.adamswinterfieldsullivan.com
