Leo Roinila Obituary

Leo V. Roinila, 88, a 35-year resident of Glen Ellyn, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Leo was born October 7, 1919 in Helsinki, Finland, immigrating to the United States with his family as a child. He was always proud of his Finnish heritage. Mr. Roinila was a highly respected watchmaker. He was a decorated Army veteran of the Second World War, serving over four years in the Pacific Theater, surviving the battle of Iwo Jima and others. Leo was a Lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and Master Mason for over 50 years. He was a lover of animals, enjoyed photography, memory sharing and charities. He was a great friend to many, including longtime colleague, Michael McGee. Cherished father of Leo, Jr. (Rebecca) and Marcia (Joe) Aufmuth. He was the favorite uncle of John (Sharon) Mustonen, Marge (Fred) Masek, Ellen Jane Watson, Susan Watson, Edward Watson and numerous loving great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Lillian, sister Laura Mustonen, brother Laurie and dearest sister-in-law Ellen (Edward) Watson. Visitation Friday, April 11th, 2008, 6-9p.m. at Leonard Memorial Home, Ltd., 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. Memorial service Saturday, April 12th, 11:00am at Faith Lutheran Church, Glen Ellyn with the Rev. Heidi J. Johns officiating. Inurnment will be private at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights, IL. If desired, memorials in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association, Memorials & Tributes Lockbox, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674, appreciated. Arrangements by Leonard Memorial Home, (630) 469-0032.
