Lena MASSEY Obituary

LENA SUE MASSEY, daughter of Ira and Lillie Rue Moore, was born August 7, 1938, in Wright County, Missouri and entered her Heavenly home April 26, 2014, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-five years.

Lena made a profession of faith and was saved at the young age of twelve. She united with Mt. Zion Cuba Church, where she remained active and faithful through the years, as long as her health allowed. The fellowship and prayers shared with her church family through the years was very important to her.

On December 24, 1953, Lena was united in marriage with Verlin Massey and to this union was born four children, all surviving. Prior to her passing, she and Verlin had shared sixty years of love and wonderful memories together.

Although Lena?s top priority was being a devoted wife and mother, she also worked outside her home for several years. She was a seamstress at the H.D. Lee Company. She made many friends and treasured those friendships through the years.

Lena was well known for her excellent cooking and baking skills. She made numerous wedding cakes for couples. She was also known for her famous pies and wonderful fried chicken. Those who had the pleasure of sitting down at her table never left hungry.

In younger years, Lena enjoyed riding horses. More recently any free time she had was spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved them dearly.

She leaves to celebrate her memory, her husband Verlin of Grovespring; one son, Darrell Massey of Grovespring, MO; three daughters, Mary Prock and her husband Danny of Grovespring, MO, Marlena Clopton and her husband Marvin of Fair Grove, MO, and Nancy Moore and her husband Mike of Lebanon, MO; one brother, Emmitt Moore and his wife Betty of Grovespring, MO; one sister, Susie Massey and her husband Vernon, also of Grovespring, MO; ten grandchildren, Annie Massey, Sandi McGuire, Joshua Prock, Lyndon Clopton, Samantha Moore, Catlyn Moore, Marty Clopton, Mia Shelton, Tracy Clopton, and Brian Clopton; three great-grandchilden, Jacob McGuire, Ashley and Carla Carpenter; one great-great grandson, Dusty Carpenter; other relatives; church family and many friends.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Chester Lloyd Moore; one grandson, Mark Clopton; and one great-grandson, Dylan Carpenter.

She was a loving wife, caring mother, cherished sister, fun-loving grandmother and loyal friend. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her will miss the laughter, but cherish every memory. Our loss was Heaven?s gain.
