Joseph Tanney Obituary

Joseph David Tanney, Sr. of Cicero passed away on August 18, 2009 at the age of 71. Mr. Tanney was born in Berwyn in 1937 and returned there after college to start his own family with wife Christina. He had an extended career with Amphenol and later served as president of Tocos America in Schaumburg until his retirement in 2003. He and his wife, Christina Rosenthal, raised their family in Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina, New York and Ohio. He then returned to Cicero to take care of his mother, Marcella Tanney, who passed away in 2003. Beloved father of Joseph, Jr. (Nancy), Mark (Susan), Michele (Jeffrey), and Marcella; and proud "Pea Paw" to his five granddaughters, Claudia, 15, Celeste, 14, Savannah, 13, Stephanie, 12 and Rachel, 12. Dad is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. He is also survived by his former wife, Christina; sister, Eileen; nephews, Peter and Anthony; and niece, Annie. Mr. Tanney attended Christian Brother's College on a basketball scholarship in Memphis, TN, where he excelled in friendship, fellowship, and athletics, and graduated with a BS in Marketing in 1960. He was well liked by many and is remembered with a smile. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
