Joseph P. Prato
Joseph P. Prato, age 92, passed away in Altercare of Nobles Pond, on Saturday May 12, 2007. A life long resident of Canton, he was a graduate of McKinley High School and retired from the Timken Roller Bearing Company. He was well known in the area for his pitching, and was a member of the Greater Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame. As an umpire, he officiated at the first Little League game held in Canton. He was also an avid bowler carrying a 188 average in the Old-Timers League. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Nicolina Prato; sons Joseph and Joel; brother Bennie Prato; sisters Rose Angiletti, Josephine Douez, and Theresa Gero. Survivors include his devoted wife of 71 years Helen (Kaleja) Prato; loving daughters Patricia Unger of North Canton, Felicia Samblanet of Louisville, OH., and Alicia (John) Langrell of Heidelberg, Germany; grandchildren Keith Kost of Ashburn, VA., Angela Lowrie of Louisville, OH., and Lisa Samblanet of Jackson Hole, WY; great grandchildren Paige Samblanet and Jacob Joseph Lowrie of Louisville, OH., as well as many other dear relatives and friends who will miss his wonderful sense of humor. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the REED FUNERAL HOME NORTH CANTON CHAPEL, with the Rev. Fr. Edward Beneleit officiating. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. in the funeral home.
