Joseph C. Oberfranc

Joseph C. Oberfranc, a Chicago-area architect and engineer who assisted in the design and construction of numerous office and manufacturing facilities both locally and throughout the country, passed away on January 10th.

Arriving in the U.S at the age of 6, Mr. Oberfranc attended Oak Park/River Forest High School, the University of Illinois and the Illinois Institute of Technology. Following a brief career with the Illinois Central Railroad, Mr. Oberfranc worked for several independent architectural firms, where his legacy includes design work for the Portland Cement Assn. headquarters in Skokie as well as many local retail, manufacturing, and distribution facilities. He joined Kraft Foods in 1961 and was instrumental in the design and construction of Kraft facilities in Glenview and many other U.S. locations.

A 60-year resident of Glen Ellyn, Mr. Oberfranc is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen "Lee" (nee Kaylor); daughter, Gretchen (Charles); sons, Mark and Carl; grandchildren, Eric and Kyle; and beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Charles.

Visitation 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home, 565 Duane St. Glen Ellyn. Services Thursday, 1:00 p.m., at St. Petronille Church, 420 Glenwood Ave. Glen Ellyn.
