John Mega Obituary

John will always be my light in my darkest hour. You shine on even after these months/years go by, you shine on. Love you always.

My condolences to your family, I was at Kendall College with John and I have nothing but the fondest memories of him. He was a great guy and I was always really impressed by his culinary prowess and dedication, he will be missed.

To John's family: John will be all ways remembered in the Blasche Family.

John and Cathy, I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many memories spending time with John at your home, almost every Friday and Saturday night. I remember Mike's basketball games, and family gatherings. I felt like part of the family, if only for a short time. I was so happy to reconnect with John in recent years, and to see the love and joy he had for family, friends, and his cooking. The many, many friends he had are a testament to the great man that he was, and he will be sadly missed. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and all of John's friends during this sad time.

The loss of such a great person to the world is going to be felt by many and for a very long time. I think about the loss to his family and frineds who have known him longer. I feel touched to have known him at all if only for a short time. John you will be missed and I will never forget the time we did get to know each other.

My prayers go out to you. I was shocked to hear the news. I too remember the smile on John's face in junior high and high school. Always a pleasant guy. He will be missed.

I had the opportunity to share the stage with John in “Brigadoon” at Downers Grove North, as well as Chamber Choir his senior year.

He was a talented, funny guy and my thoughts are with his family and friends in this time of loss.

We weren't terribly close, but even I could recognize how much his presence lit up a room, how his boisterous personality caused an automatic grin. I suspect that's what made living, gathering, cooking, and playing with him such blast. That grin will be missed.

My deepest sympathies to the Mega family. I am so sorry for your loss. I met John in high school in Spanish Class his Senior Year, my Sophomore year. From day 1 he cracked me up. Years later, I was lucky to get to know him better via a mutual friend, Elena. Even though I lived in Atlanta since 2003, we'd meet up most times I was back in Downers Grove and I had him as the resident chef of any charity events I would put together. He was such a great guy and his smile was infectious. You will be missed my friend. Cheers.

Memories of John from 2st grade in Meadowview until graduation at DGN, even though we did not have a close relationship, I always felt connected to him in some way; he was always smiling, telling jokes and laughing. Reconnecting through Facebook, we formed a sweet bond, weather it was our little witty comments or affirming each other's accomplishments. My heart broke at the news, but then I felt a peace, because the one thing I remembered and will always remember was his SMILE. My prayers are with your family and know that He will not be forgotten.

I don't know if you remember me, but you and I used to volunteer at Meadowview. My daughter Susan was a friend of John's.
I remember him as being such a nice fellow...very friendly and polite.

Chef John's energy was and still is passed along to everyone he touched. He will live on through us and our memories, thoughts and stories about his life. Never regret smiling when you think of John. Celebrate knowing him and don't be sad because that would disappoint John. He's smiling so smile with him and grant him peace with finding peace within ourselves.

No one that knew John was untouched by his heart.
Grade school playing hockey and listening to music are some of my greatest memories, and John was part of that.
In high school we became brothers through football... An unbreakable bond of respect and love. Then John became our Chef, always whipping up some amazing food as we got together.
"Suddenly you were gone, from all the lives you left your mark upon". I remember...

I am so shocked and saddened to hear about John's passing. I had the pleasure of knowing him in high school. He was such a wonderfully happy man...always had a huge smile on his face. The last time I saw John was at our DGN 20 year HS Reunion 2-1/2 years ago. He invited me to all of his events as chef, and I am so sorry to have missed out.
