John Maisch Obituary

John Joseph Maisch

John Joseph Maisch, age 92, a longtime resident of Hinsdale passed away in Oro Valley, Arizona on September 15th, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Charlotte (nee Gordon) Maisch.

John and Charlotte will be interned together in eternal peace at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in a private ceremony.

John, a veteran of WWII, served in the 84th Infantry division affectionately known as the "Rail Splitters."

Because of his actions John received a Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge.

He took advantage of the GI bill, receiving his Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois Champaign where he met, and fell in love with, Charlotte Gordon, who was employed as a secretary for the Science department. After bouncing around small town Illinois teaching he ended up at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, IL, where he specialized in the instruction of Physical Sciences and Chemistry for 25 years. He also received a Master's degree plus 60 hours, just short of a doctorate. Obviously John valued education, but was also a hard worker. He owned many small businesses, apartment buildings, and according to family legend, he slept in the ovens at Pepperidge Farm while cleaning them.

After Charlotte's passing, John remarried in 2007 to Judith Martin. After living in Lisle, they escaped the winter and moved to Arizona upon Judith's retirement, in order to be closer to John's brother, Frank Maisch.

John stayed active going to the gym and pool every other day well into his 80's. He was a member of the church choir and enjoyed many of the plays and activities offered by the Sun City retirement community.

John is survived by his second wife, Judith Martin Maisch; his brother, Frank Maisch; his four daughters, Michelle Wardzala, Shawn Maisch, Priscilla Maisch, Dana Browne (Scott); six grandchildren, Scott Wardzala, Tara Jack, John Wardzala, Ian Mertens, Mackenzie Mertens, Austin Browne; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Cremation was private. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Friends and family can gather at 1:30pm with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 2:00pm, 11500 German Church Rd., Burr Ridge, IL 60527

We just found out about John's passing and are sorry to have missed his memorial service. We knew John when he was a member at the YMCA and attended his wedding in 2007. He was a wonderful person, always willing to help his neighbors, and always had a kind work and kind thoughts for everyone. He will be missed by all who knew him.
