John Kennedy Obituary

John M. Kennedy

John Maurice Kennedy of Deltona, Florida passed away on November 23, 2015, at the age of 75.

He is survived by three children, John Charles Kennedy (Deltona, Florida), Dyan Lee Baughan (Branson, Missouri), and Carly Kay Quick (Lake Bluff, Illinois).

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Lee; and his second wife, Mary Ellen.

John grew up in Villa Park, Illinois and relocated to Kannapolis, North Carolina in 1984. He retired to Deltona, Florida in 1991, where he enjoyed restoring classic cars and taking boat rides on the river.

John was a skilled master mechanic and accomplished racecar driver whose passion for racing dated back to his first win at O'Hare Stadium in 1963. His career encompassed Cadet, Late Model, Super Late Model, ARCA, USAC and NASCAR racing. John continued driving at central Florida tracks and was recognized this past October as the oldest licensed race car driver in the United States and possibly the world. During his five decade racing career, John also built cars for a number of notable drivers and race teams.

His life, talent and witticisms will be missed by many.
