News Death Notice

KEMP, John Loehr, Jr. Age 85 of Miamisburg, formerly of Kettering, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Hospice of Dayton. John was born on February 5, 1923 in Dayton to John L. and Dorothy (Diehl) Kemp, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Charlotte M. (Ervin) Kemp on July 7, 1992; his parents and his sister, Elizabeth Diehl Kemp. He is survived by his wife, Carol Brenneman Kemp; his children, Alan E. Kemp and his wife, Terry of Atlanta and Julie A. Buzzelli and her husband, Chris of Bowling Green, Ohio; three grandchildren, David Kemp and Gina and Joe Buzzelli. John was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in 1941, attended Miami University, served in the U.S. Army during WW II and received his B.M. and M.M. from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He was the Principal Clarinetist with the Dayton Philharmonic for many years and taught music both in the Dayton Public Schools and privately at home. He was a longtime member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the Chancel Choir and played in the Handbell Choir.
