John Ganchoff Obituary
John Ganchoff died peacefully in Daly City, CA on Monday, April 3.
He is survived by his son, Christopher and wife, Naomi; daughter, Mary and husband, David Whitmire; and many extended family, friends and colleagues.
He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Barbara (Kulczycki).
John was born in Milwaukee, WI, graduated from Marquette University, and received his PhD from Georgia Tech University.
He had a successful and long career as a chemistry professor at Elmhurst College, in Elmhurst, IL. He influenced countless undergrads and was loved and respected by colleagues in his department and across the faculty.
His influence is still felt at the college through the John and Barbara Ganchoff Awards, given each year to students who have an interest in analytical chemistry and plan to continue their education in graduate school.
John was a trumpet player, a lover of arts and music, and will be remembered as a kind and loving friend, father, and husband.
A memorial service is planned for a future date.

Professor Ganchoff was my mentor at Elmhurst College. His wife Barbara was my daughters' Physician. He was an extremely kind and intelligent man as was his wife. Prof. Ganchoff always encourage me to be a better person and student. He encouraged me to attend the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Dentistry and eventually join the Faculty at the College of Medicine as a Assistant Clinical Professor. His stature as an educator inspired me to follow.
