John Daniel Flick, 88, died Friday, March 5, 2021 in Florida. John (Sonny) was born on October 5, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Mary Margaret and John Thomas Flick. He graduated from Naperville Community High School. John married Diane Wilk on September 10, 1955. They were blessed with four children; Jodee, John, Jeanine and Jannice, raising them in their Westmont home.
John worked hard all his life which included owning Flicks Concrete and Johns Cove. He remarried in 1988 to Julie Tomei. Having always loved Florida, he retired to Barefoot Bay in 2011 with Julie, to continue his love affair with the ocean.
First and foremost John loved his family and they him. His dogs were his best buddies. The church was an important part of his life where he faithfully attended and volunteered. He enjoyed playing softball on adult teams and with family and friends. He loved talking sports and was a long-time Dolphins and Packers fan. He was always ready for a good game of horseshoes. For all those that knew or met John, he was a vibrant, energetic, goofy, likable, good man who could spark a conversation with anyone he came in contact with and was always ready to help.
John is survived by his wife Julie (Tomei) Flick, three children; Jodee (Flick) Steger, John William Flick, Jeanine (Dave) Keenlance; six grandchildren, Rabecca, Jessica (Craig), Jacob, David (Maddy), Nathan, Aleea; six great-grandchildren, Josalyn, Kylee, Kaiden, CamRon, Olivia, Ciara; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Margaret Flick; daughter, Jannice Flick; sisters, Rosemary Schmidt and Ruth Lopez; brothers, Lloyd Flick, Al Berntson, and Dave Berntson. Memorial to be scheduled at a later date.

John was there for my family when my father was sick. My dad worked for him in concrete. I remember the Grandma Sally doll that John bought for me. He seen how I looked at that doll. He was a wonderful man. I wish I had known that he passed away. John has always been and continue to be in my heart.

Thinking of you today it's hard to believe you're gone and almost a month already. Feels like I just held your hand, saw your smile' and kissed your head. The grief of loosing you has come in waves. I get sad and try to stay positive by hearing your voice and all the things you said to me this past year about knowing how much we love you and how special you feel and how loved we all are from loving on you and receiving your love. It means alot to me that you shared your feelings with us.I know you were in pain and God wanted to take that away from you. I wanted you here but that was for me and what was best for you was to be free and no longer suffer not just in your physical pain but the sadness you felt not going to the ocean and being 20 minutes away or not getting to do all the things you love and enjoy not being mobile. I know that was so hard for you. But you were strong and held on long enough for my Mom to get to say goodbye and that's all I could have wanted. I knew you were gone and just the machine was keeping you here. Its hard to let go of a man so special as you are. You are at peace now with our Father, daughter,son in law, brothers, sisters, and parents . I pray you wake up and see the ocean everyday now Papa.
