I am very sad to hear only today of John's passing. My fond memories reach back to my primary school days and I am happy to say later in my adult life. John was a lovely man and always showed he cared about you. He once advised me to learn Chinese as it would be good for my career. A man ahead of his time - that advice was around 1980! It was a privilege to have known him. It will be a great loss to Carole and the family.

You were the closest thing I ever had to a godfather. And likely would have been had that been something my folks did! What an incredible friend you were to them. And what a wonderful fatherly figure you have played in my life. Thank you for being such a support to me during some of the toughest years in my life (and that of my parents) and for also being there during the most wonderful and celebratory times of my life.
I'll miss you more than you can imagine. I'm so sorry I never got to tell you all that in person. My deepest deepest love and condolences to Carole and the family.
And yes, in keeping with your wishes, there were many tears shed!
Love you Johnny x
