Joann Smith Obituary

I am so sorry to hear this! I met Joann by chance when I knocked on her door while I was campaigning for my then-husband. I was wowed by her beauty and generosity when she let me put a sign in her yard and she gave me a list of people to who might do the same. After that, it seemed that everywhere I went, I ran into Joann-- even Christmas Eve mass! I was going thru a divorce at the time and my son was sitting in church between me and his dad. Joann came to mass and sat with us, winked and held my hand. I will never forget that or her. I am sorry you lost such a wonderful mom. ~ Shannon McHugh (Gallaher)

She's one of the reasons I became an Interior Designer.
I worked as her assistant and also met Paul Jessen who was our upholsterer and became my 2nd husband.
I remember her beautiful smile and always friendly and fun to be with.

What a wonderful person. I remember way back when we would go over to the Smith house for social gatherings. Joann would be there to greet everyone like June Cleaver of Naperville. Always smiling and anxious to see what you were up to lately. We would sometimes spend hours talking about life, work, local news, her home decorations etc.. sometimes into early morning. She really seemed interested in what you had to say, or was very good at acting like it. A very special lady.
