Died: Feb. 19, 2016; in Oak Park, IL
Joan Giegerich Stone, age 85, passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 in Oak Park.
Joan is survived by her loving daughter, Sarah (Tim) Cooke; two cherished grandchildren, Samuel and Claire Cooke; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Giegerich, Kathleen Giegerich, and Jean Stone. Numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren also survive.
Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edwin R. Stone; parents, John and Gertrude (Gierich) Giegerich; two brothers, Roger Giegerich and Dr. Clare Giegerich; one sister, Dr. Joyce Anderson.
Born on September 18, 1930 in Joliet, formerly of LaGrange and living the past 12 years in Oak Park. Graduated from Joliet Township High School, attended the University of Illinois Pharmacy School. Member of Grace Lutheran Church in LaGrange, Infant Welfare Society of Chicago La Grange Chapter (Past President), LaGrange Community Nurse Health Center (Past President and Co-Founder of the Corner Shoppe), Oak Park and River Forest Food Pantry Volunteer, and Member of PEO Chapter EW.
Joan had a love of Mexico and resided in Rincon de Guayabitos, Nayarit, MX part-time from 2001-2014. She had many adventures there with friends who became extended family to her.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Grace Lutheran Church in LaGrange, IL.
Memorials can be made to The La Grange Community Nurse Health Center, Grace Lutheran Church of La Grange, Boxer Rebound (Ringwood, IL), The Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry and The Wild Animal Sanctuary (Keenesburg, CO).

My condolences to your family on the loss of Joan. I grew up with her brother Clair and lived a few houses up the street. Joan, Joyce and Roger were always very nice to me. My condolences to Clair's family also. I did not know he passed away too. I am feeling very sad for the loss of both.
