Jeffrey Rauscher Obituary

Jeffrey James Rauscher, Major USAF (Ret)

November 19, 1958 - June 4, 2011

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - Jeff Rauscher was born at Chateauroux AFB, France on November 19, 1958 and died at Williamsburg, Virginia on June 4, 2011. He is survived by his parents, Colonel Norm Rauscher, USAF (Ret) and Carol Rauscher of Aumsville, OR; his two sons, Cody and Gabe Rauscher, of Williamsburg, VA; his brother, Gregory Rauscher of Williamsburg, VA; and close personal friend, Robin Jones, of Lanexa, VA. A sister, Leslie Rissberger preceded him in death earlier this year.

Jeff grew up and attended schools in many countries and states as his father was a career Air Force officer. Jeff graduated from high school in Anchorage AK, Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Southern California.

He spent most of his nearly 30-year Air Force career as an intelligence officer. He was involved in highly classified operations both on active duty and later as a Department of Air Force civilian employee. He received many awards and decorations, to include the Bronze Star for operations in the enduring Freedom Campaign in Afghanistan.

Jeff enjoyed all athletics, and was an avid runner and hunter. He particularly enjoyed deer and elk hunting in Oregon and moose hunting in Alaska with his father. Although both initially growing up and later as an Air Force officer he spent many years away from Oregon, he always considered Oregon his home.

Dear Jeff, Danny and I will miss you very much; you have touched not only our lives, but the lives of many others since we met you. I remember when my son Danny first got to know you, he gave you a new name and starting calling you “Mamin” (and as of today, he still doesn’t know the reason why he call you by that name), so for a while we were all calling Mamin as well.
You have always been such a great person, a true gentleman with a big heart, great father with a funny sense of humor and extremely easy going guy, I only know very few people with such great personality. You will be missed so much!
And even though you and Martha ended up going your separate ways, you have always been part of our family and you will continue to have a big place in our hearts.
Rest in Peace our Dear Jeff (Mamin)

I first met Jeff in 2002 when we were both working for Adroit (now SRA). I continued to work with him on the ACC A2 staff until his retirement earlier this year. Jeff was such an honorable, decent man. Through all of his trials he kept a positive attitude and continued to live his life to the fullest. His devotion to his family and his career were evident in everything he did. He is missed by so many people!

No one worked harder than Jeff to get current/updated ISR systems to the Airmen in the ISR Division of the Air and Space Ops Centers. His determination in working the toughest issues is a wonderful legacy to all of us in the ACC/A2 "Mothership".

I have known Jeff for almost 10 years as a boss, colleague, and friend. I will forever miss our conversations about what can be done or what is the right thing to do…it didn’t matter the topic, whether we were talking about “our” family or “our” Targeteers. He was a true professional and he will be missed. To his family, I would like to say that I am truly sorry for your loss. Jeff Loved his family and I hope you can take comfort in knowing that he was loved and respected by many of his AF family as well.

Jeff is the first person who welcomed me to the AFC2ISRC and we continued our friendship and working relationship to the ACC staff. When I was asked who I wanted to bring over to the ACC/A2 staff, Jeff was one of the first ones I thought of. I will remember him as a great person who was dedicated to his job and his family.

Jeff was a good friend and officer. I always enjoyed working with him on exercises and deployments during our time at Shaw AFB, and later at Langley AFB. He is truly one of the finest targeting officers, Airmen, and Americans with whom I've served and will always remember him. May God bless Jeff's family and friends alike to take comfort in our fond memories of one very likable, admirable guy.

Jeff was a friend and colleague. He and I went through targets school together (1988). He was one of the great old school targeteers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeff’s family now at this sad time. He will be missed, but our memories of him will endure.

It really hurt my heart to hear of Jeff's passing. We (my wife Lois, daughter Molly and I) first met him when we were all stationed at Shaw AFB in the late 90's. The best decision I ever made was to request Jeff as my squadron DO (609th AIS); he was among the top 5 airmen I worked with in 30 years in the AF. We will all miss his sound judgement and sharp mind. May God bless his family.

My heartfelt condolences to Jeff's family. Jeff gave me my first opportunity as a contractor here at the AFC2IC in 2003. His was a kind man who I thought the world of and I greatly admired him. I will miss him.

Jeff was one of the first people I met when I reported in at langley a few years back. I'll always remember his friendly smile and gracious hospitality. As a mutual friend of ours recently reminded me - he was easily of the most decent people he ever worked with at Langley.

Jeff and I have been friends for 15 years, through active duty and then to civil service. I will always remember Jeff's smile, big heart and easy-going nature. I will miss seeing him in the office as both a colleague and a friend I talked to about all things.

Jeff and I worked together for the last six years. We sat side by side almost the entire time at various jobs for ACC/A2 and at the AFC2ISRC. He was my boss, coworker, mentor and friend. He was responsible for hiring me and recomending me as his replacement. I miss his humor, sence of dedication and desire to make a difference! His life touched many all of them better for it. All of us here at work miss him both professionally and personaly... He was one of a kind.
