Jean Angrist Obituary

Jean Angrist (nee Beatty), age 88. A memorial service for Jean Beatty Angrist, who died at her Glen Ellyn home in Raintree Court February 11, 2008, after a long illness, will be held at 3 p.m. on May 3 at the First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, 535 Forest Avenue. The Rev. Seth Ethan Carey will officiate. Mrs. Angrist was born February 26, 1919, in Galesburg, IL, and was graduated from Knox College in that city before moving to Chicago to work for the Harris Trust Bank. She met and later married Dr. Arthur W. Angrist. They moved to Glen Ellyn in 1973, and became strong supporters of community-based initiatives. Dr. Angrist, who received his Ph.D. from Ohio State University, was an active participant in Village and DuPage County affairs and served in many capacities including chairman of both the Glen Ellyn Plan Commission and the Ad Hoc Zoning Commission, and as a member of the Inter-Governmental Relations Committee, and the Regional Transportation Authority. He was Village President from 1989-1993. Mrs. Angrist believed that all who live in a community such as Glen Ellyn have a responsibility to support local businesses and organizations to keep Glen Ellyn a vibrant community. She enjoyed and participated in numerous community groups including the Community Nursing Service Auxiliary, the Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare Society and the Woman's Club of Glen Ellyn. She was very active in Newcomers Club and later participated in many "alumni" functions including Gourmet Dinner Groups. Mrs. Angrist also was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi alumnae group. She had many loyal friends in the Glen Ellyn area that supported her when she needed help, Mrs. Angrist especially enjoyed spending summers at their cottage in Holland, MI. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading on the porch, knitting, and socializing with visiting and cottage friends. She was predeceased by her husband who died in 2003. Survivors include her daughter, Kristen Angrist Balderston, son-in-law, David Balderston, and granddaughters, Kate, Elizabeth, and Anna of Simsbury, CT.

Kristen,
Sorry to hear of your mom's passing. The last time we saw her was at our parents 50th wedding anniversary last summer and Don my husband took her home to her cottage. He couldn't believe how far she had to walk to get there and how well she did. I know my parents will miss her deeply. Hope you are doing well
