Jay Cawley Obituary

Jay & Mary Cawley
Died: July 31, 2025 in Lincoln, NE
Jay and Mary Cawley lived in La Grange from 1956-1966 along with their three children, Michael, Jan and Tim. Jay died this July in Lincoln, Nebraska where he and Mary moved in 2014 in order to be closer their only grandchild. Mary died in 2020. Both were born and raised in Detroit where Mary worked as a secretary for Holley Carburetor. They moved to Illinois in 1956 when Jay began working for Sears. The family moved to Downers Grove in 1966. As the kids left the house Mary volunteered at a daycare nursery and at Little Friends Sheltered Workshop. After Jay retired, they moved to Florida in 1983 where they both spent almost 30 years volunteering for a local hospice. Both were also avid bowlers, dancers and readers. Mary golfed, bakes and gardened. Jay's passions were photography and computers. They are survived by eldest son, Michael and his wife, Georgia (nee Bushman) now in Florida; daughter, Jan (now in Los Angeles); youngest son, Tim, his wife, Debra and daughter, Abby; as well as Jay's sister Valerie Sprader (in Michigan).
