Janice Vernol Obituary

On December 18, 2012, with her good friend Krissy Schanze by her side, we tearfully said good-bye to Janice Vernol (nee Ander), of Yorkville, Illinois, formerly of Batavia, Illinois. For over 30 years she was a Kindergarten teacher for the Hinsdale, IL and Aurora, IL school districts, after graduating from NIU. She loved working with Jan Gustafson and together watching these young minds ready themselves for a lifetime of challenges. Janice used her creativity and wit to teach her students. Their innocence kept Janice young at heart and she would often tell stories of her students' antics. She loved each one and remembered the names of many, including the troublemakers. Some still visited her even after they became grandparents. Most of Janice's family, including her loving parents Elmer and Martha Ander, and sister Betty Bang (Gordon), passed before her. She cherished her surviving family including her nephew, Andy (Margaret) Bang, and their children, Christina, Michael, Nicholas and Patrick, also her cousin Bill Fahlmark. Janice's love of all cats and friends' dogs was never hidden and she always took the opportunity to help a stray animal if one sat on her doorstep. She leaves several furry friends whining for her including Little One, Socks, Rusty and Spirit. We also know she is now reunited with her beloved horse Nugget. On January 5, 2013 at 11:00 am, Pastor Patrick Demerath of AuSable Grove Presbyterian Church will officiate a Memorial service in honor of Janice at the church, 5021 Wheeler Road, Yorkville. Pastor Patrick was not only a dear friend of Janice, but also an inspirational guide during her final days on earth. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory, www.NelsonFuneralHomes.com or 630-553-7611.

You were a wonderful teacher. Out of that class i have stayed in close contact with many. I remember for the first few weeks you thought my name was different as I could not pronounce my L in my first name. I also remember playing kitchen in her room, doing alot of fingerpainting and doing the cakewalks in her room during the fun fair. Thank you for your dedication to each and every child!!Lisa Swain Hoffman Greenman School

I'll miss her sense of humor most of all, but know that she is at peace and all her worries are gone.

I remember so clearly me first day of school. I was a little shy, and was not sure what to expect. I remember Janice Vernol taking my hand and telling me everything was going to be ok. She was right. She was the best teacher a kid could have. I got to see her later in life, and she was still the kind soul she always was. Thanks for your dedication! Brendan Whitson Greenman School
