Jane Kuhn Obituary

Jane Aleda Hyde Korber Stallard Kuhn

Born: February 4, 1922; in Chicago, IL

Died: April 19, 2017; in LaGrange, IL

Jane Aleda Hyde Korber Stallard Kuhn died peacefully under St. Thomas Hospice care at LaGrange Memorial Hospital in LaGrange, Illinois on April 19, 2017.

Jane Aleda Hyde was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 4, 1922 to William and Edythe Hyde. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1942, married Bill Korber in 1945 and had her first three boys. After divorcing in 1953 and living in Western Springs as a single mother, she met "the love of her life", Sam Stallard and was married in 1957. From this marriage, they had two boys. With Sam's son from his first marriage, they became a family of six boys made up of "his, hers, & ours" and settled into their home in Indian Head Park.

Sam Stallard died suddenly in 1976 leaving Jane with one son still in college, one starting college, and one just starting high school. She finished the job she started with Sam, and raised every one of her boys into responsible men for which she had great pride.

On Valentines 1988, Jane married Dean Kuhn. Dean and his late wife Janet had been dear friends and neighbors of Jane and Sam, and the family and neighborhood celebrated when Jane and Dean married. Together, the new couple traveled a great deal to Europe, Australia, and all parts of the US. In 2005, Dean passed away, and Jane continued living in the same home she raised her family (nearly 60 years).

In addition to successfully raising her six boys into men, Jane was tireless and active in community, political, and civic activities. Giving unselfishly of her time and talents Jane was a longstanding member of PEO, Lyonsville Congregational Church, Chi Omega Chapter (for 75 years!), integral in the establishment of the Indian Head Park Heritage Library, recipient of the Cook County Sheriff's Senior Award, and active member of the Republican Party and election judge for decades among many other activities.

Jane was also a talented artist, and worked all her life primarily in the creation and restoration of ceramics. As recent as 5 years ago, she finished creating 7 oversized ceramic toby mugs made into lamps for each of her 6 sons (and one for an adopted son!). In addition to creating her own pieces, she reveled in teaching ceramics on and off for most of her adult life, and gained many friends along the way.

Whether it was as a single mother in the 50's or when she lost "her Sam" suddenly in the 70's, Jane persevered. Her unfaltering faith in God and the hardships she endured with grace were a significant part of her character and make up. She prided herself as "Plain Jane" and "telling it like it is", but she was anything but plain. With these characteristics, Jane attracted many good friends and she was a good and true friend herself.

Jane is survived by her six sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Kerry Stallard, Bill and Marilyn Korber, John and Lorie Korber, Christopher and Maria Korber, David and Gina Stallard, and Steven and Yvonne Stallard. Jane also is survived by nine grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

On Saturday May 6, a memorial service for Jane Kuhn will be held at Lyonsville Congregation Church 6871 West Joliet Rd, Indian Head Park, Illinois. Family visitation begins at 9:00AM with a memorial service beginning at 10:30AM followed by a light reception in the church Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lyonsville Church to which Jane devoted over 50 years of dedicated service.

I remember your mom from my Sunday School days at Lyonsville. She was always so sweet and caring. Not many people leave a lasting impression on someone at that young of an age but she did. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. The world lost a great lady!!!

Why yes, I do have an opinion.

"The rainbow comes and goes and lovely is the rose.
The moon doth with delight look round her when the heavens are bare...
Waters on a starry night are beautiful and fair.
The sunshine is a glorious birth...
BUT, yet I know...That there hath passed away a glory from the earth."
(William Wordsworth) I will miss your beauty, Jane. Never trade, Carol

Oh how I will miss this wonderful Lady.
She made a tremendous impact on my life, and her wise sayings will stay with me always. When I think about how I really thought she would live until at least 100, I can hear her say, "We plan, God laughs."
Love you always,
Your "Sweet Girl"

My "Grammy" was such a beautiful person inside and out. She was a great role model in so many ways for me as a young woman and even into my adult life. I am so grateful to have had so many opportunities to create the memories I did with her and now have to hold dear to my heart. Miss you, Grammy. To my Dad, Uncles and Aunts, I share your deep loss and love you all. Thank you for taking such good care of her. She lived life to the fullest because of you! xoxo Sabrina

My brothers and I were blessed...our Mother was the Best! Always with us...when asked which son do you love the best, she'd reply, "the one that needs me most." Always with us...still is.
