James Ehlert Obituary

James Richard Ehlert passed away on December 12, 2012, at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by family. Jim fought the good fight but complications from stage IV lung cancer overwhelmed him. Jim was the beloved husband of Lorraine (nee Luchyn), adoring father of Michelle Ehlert and her fianc‚ Nick Ziegler, best and most handsome son-in-law of Stephanie Luchyn (late husband John). He was the youngest of four children of the Herbert and Anne Ehlert family. His passing is survived by his brother, Donald Ehlert, and his wife, Jean, of Evanston; and his sister Anne Caldwell (late husband James) of Tuscon, Arizona. His passing was preceded by his older brother Bert Ehlert and his wife Bette, of Florida. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A devoted college football fan of the Northwestern Wildcats and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Jim played varsity football for four years at the former St. George in Evanston. A Northsider by birth who found a Southside bride, Jim was an avid Sudoku player who relished his daily puzzle ritual. He was also a lifelong dachshund lover, most recently spending his time with his daughter's pet, wire-haired dachshund Wally. His generosity of spirit and commanding physical presence will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation was held Friday December 14th at Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, Downers Grove. The Funeral Mass was held at Divine Savior. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
