Jack Foster Obituary
Former resident of Downers Grove, Jack C. Foster, 93, died January 24, 2009 in Owensboro KY. Former Downers Grove residents who survive are his wife of 40 years, Mildred Goodman Foster of Lewisport KY; daughter Marsha Foster Weaver (Charles) of Muncie, IN; sons Bob Foster of Durango, CO and Steve Foster of Los Angeles, CA; and Millie's son Neil Goodman (Judy) of Lewisport KY. He is also survived by a sister, brother, 9 grandchildren and 15 greats. He was preceded in death by former Downers Grove residents Bonnie Delle McBride Foster, his first wife of 25 years; infant daughter Mary Delle Foster; and Millie''s daughter, Arleta Goodman Benest. Also preceded in death by 2 brothers. He was born in Canton, Texas and received degrees in journalism and history from the University of Texas in 1939. After W.W.II Navy service, he resided in Downers Grove, IL 1948-1977 where he was active in the First Methodist Church as Lay Leader and JOY President; School Board; and charter and board member of the Downers Grove Pool Association. He owned Triton Company in Chicago, a distributor in the industrial market in Chicago IL. He was a member of Executive Club of Chicago and the Western Railway Club. He and Millie retired to Lewisport, KY in 1977 where he wrote a weekly column "So It's Been Told" for The Hancock County Clarion for 22 years; the columns are bound into books and received a Kentucky Historical Society Community Service Award. He was a founder of the Hancock County Museum and the founder of the Hancock County High School Young Historians. He received several awards including Hancock County Citizen of the Year and Hancock County Historian of the Year. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hancock County Museum, P.O. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Lewisport United Methodist Church on Fourth Street. Friends may visit with family afterwards in Fellowship Hall.
