Irving Garney Obituary

Irving J. Garney, May 19, 1914 - Feb 12, 2009, Irv was born at home to John and Lillian Gornowicz in Chicago, Illinois. Irv's family lived in Glen Ellyn, IL until he retired and moved to Wenatchee, WA in 1973 and then to Portland, OR in 2003. Survivors include wife Dolores, son David (Sharon) of Glen Ellyn, daughter June Kendrick (Robert) of New York, son John (Pauline) of Portland; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two sisters, first wife Beatrice of Berwyn, and daughter Barbara Giryotas (Dr. Stanley) of Glen Ellyn. Irv owned a grinding business for 28 years in Chicago before retiring to Wenatchee, WA. An avid sportsman, Irv loved to hunt and fish. He became active in Trout Unlimited and the Wenatchee Sportsman's Association serving as President in both groups. He was a multi-talented man who used his mechanical skills to maintain equipment at the Leavenworth and Winthrop Fish Hatcheries. For his work, furthering the well-being of fish and wildlife resources, he received the Silver Eagle Award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1991. Irv loved to travel and had visited most of the 50 United States, along with Japan and Europe. Charitable donations can be made to The Salvation Army or Trout Unlimited. A Memorial Service to be held Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Portland, OR.

I was so sorry to hear about Ir's passing. I fondly remember his sense of humor and I still carry the "happy stone" he gave me. My prayers are with all of the family.
