IRENE E. JOHNSON

Irene Johnson, age 92, of Downers Grove, IL, formerly of Oviedo, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16.
Irene was born August 25, 1930, in Leroy, N.D. to Richard and Annie Heidmann. She graduated from Walhalla, N.D. High School in 1949. After graduation, she attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, N.D. Upon graduation, she was employed by WDAY radio in Fargo.
It was then that she met her future husband, Merton (Mert). They were married October 22, 1950 and resided in Mert's home town of Mahnomen, MN for one year when Mert was drafted into the Marine Corps. After basic training, Irene joined him in San Diego where they resided during Mert's enlistment period.
They lived in a variety of locations where Mert's career took them including Aberdeen, SD, Fargo, ND, Duluth, MN, Madison, WI, Cleveland, OH, and finally Chicago.
During all these moves, Irene raised two children, worked full-time, and stayed active in her Church and with friends. She served as Sunday School Superintendent at Elim Church in Fargo and also on the church council in Oviedo Fl. She was also the Pastor's secretary in Madison, WI. She also served as a Mentor to disadvantaged children in Oviedo meeting and consoling them.
Irene served many roles in her life. A great Mom and Grandmother, a wonderful home maker, and an administrative professional in real estate for many years.
Irene is survived by her husband, Mert, and two sons Brad (Mary) and Jeff (Melissa). She is also survived by sister Betty Pederson and brothers Roland Heidmann (Joyce), Richard Heidmann (Esther), and Jim Heidmann , Sister in law Patricia Heidmann and Grandchildren Ashley, Eric (Danyu), Brent and Zack Johnson and Great Grandchild Norman Johnson, fond aunt and friend to many.
Irene was a warm and unassuming person with arms that reached out to help anyone in need. She was indeed a gift from God to us who loved her dearly.
