Hugh Saunders Obituary

Hugh Hoffmaster Saunders, age 89, a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Glen Ellyn for 2 years, formerly of LaGrange for 87 years, passed away September 14, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Hugh was born March 10, 1921 In Oak Park, IL. He was an engineer at Western Electric for 35 years, retiring at age 60. Hugh was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during WWII 1943 to 1945. He received a BA from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and enjoyed tennis, playing year round for many years and competing in several traveling leagues; bowling and music. He enjoyed playing piano both for his own enjoyment and entertainment of others. He is survived by daughters, Sandra (Joe) Tilli and Sheree (Ron) Hacker; grandchildren, Joseph, Casey and Nicholas (Joanna) Tillis, Brian (Carrie), Dan (Casandra) and Jodie Hacker; great-grandchildren, Mason & Sophie Hacker. Preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy C. Saunders; daughter, Suzanne and sisters, Mary Jaedtke & Letitia Saunders. Rev. Ken Green will officiate private services. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Garden of the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange. Leonard Memorial Home of Glen Ellyn has assisted the family. 630-469-0032
