Howard Ludwig Obituary
Howard F. Ludwig, Sr., age 89, born January 3, 1926 in Lemont, passed away January 27, 2015 in Lemont, with his loving wife of 62 years, Esther nee Dastych Ludwig, to whom he was married September 27, 1952, at his side.
Dearest son of the late Howard and Florence, and raised by his second father, Dan Rountree. Father of Claudia (Jack) Rosenbaum, Howard (Nancy) Ludwig, Carol (David) Frohlichstein, Mary (late Dennis) Schehr, Jeffrey (Victory) Ludwig. Grandfather to Howard Ludwig IV (Katie) , Matthew Ludwig (Tessa), Brian Ludwig, Thomas Ludwig (Maggie), Benjamin Frohlichstein, Jason Frohlichstein, Rachel Frohlichstein, Amanda Ludwig, Lori Ludwig, Michael Ludwig, Jennifer Schehr, Stephanie Schehr. Great Grandfather to Howard Ludwig V, Peter Ludwig, Matthew Ludwig, Alivia Ludwig, Nicholas Ludwig, Parker Ludwig, Elliana Ludwig, Milena Ludwig. Dear brother of the late Marion Johnson.
Howard lived in Lemont his entire life. He joined the Air Corp after graduating high school and at age 18, actively served our nation proudly as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 bomber. After the war, he entered the work force and soon after met Esther Dastych. Together, they raised their five children in Lemont. While Howard worked at Argonne National Laboratory as an assistant engineer, he and Esther started Ludwig's Feed Store in Lemont, in 1972, still in business to this day.
Howard was an excellent golfer, able to shoot his age while in his 70s. An avid fisherman, he was always happy to take his grandchildren along to spend the day with Grandpa. He could fix almost anything and built the house he lived in since 1957. Howard had a contagious smile and would give a wink of the eye to you at times, just so you felt special. Being with family was always important to him even though his children and grandchildren were not all in Illinois, travelling to see them was regular.
Funeral services Saturday, January 31, 2015, 10:00 a.m. from Markiewicz Funeral Home, P.C. 108 Illinois St. Lemont, to SS. Cyril & Methodius Church for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment SS. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery. Visitation Friday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital www.stjude.org
