Pacific Grove

Dr. Henry Schiffman, 92, passed away in Pacific Grove, CA. He was the 2nd of 5 children born to Jacob and Olga Schiffman, educated in Stockton schools, attended Stanford, UCLA and received his Doctorate of Education at C.O.P. , a 37 year career in education in SUSD included teaching and administration positions with his last 20 years as principal of Lottie Grunsky school. Because of his love for the outdoors many early summers were spent as a staff member in charge of water sports, boating and hiking at Stockton Municipal and Red Cross camps at Silver Lake where he was also a weekly correspondent for the Stockton Record. During WWII, Henry served 3 years in the Army Air Force as a glider pilot, after which he returned to his educational career. Upon retirement, he and his late wife, Dorothea, moved to Pacific Grove and became world travelers while pursuing his hobby of photography. Many of his photos were purchased from displays and many are still on view. Henry was active in Elderhostel programs along with his love of tennis and harmonica playing with his musical group at various retirement centers. He was a Past Master of Keystone Masonic Lodge in Milton, CA; life member of National Education Assn.; CA Retired Teachers Assn. and CA Nature Conservancy.
Henry was the brother of the late Charles and Milton Schiffman. Survived by brother, Leon Schiffman and sister, Charlotte Vassar, both of Stockton. He is also survived by nieces, Diane Giottonini, Cathy Chamorin, Joanne Leventini; nephew, Dr. James Vassar and numerous grandnieces and nephews.
At his request no service will be held with cremation and scattering at sea.

I was one of Mr. Schiffman's 5th grade students at El Dorado Grammer School in 1950. He was one of my favorite teachers of all time.
