Helen McShane Obituary

Helen V. McShane nee McCarthy, 94 of Riverside, passed away. Beloved wife of the late Bernard J. McShane; loving mother of John (Linda), Thomas, Jerome, Bernard and Dennis (Nellie); dearest grandmother of Capt. John (Kelly), Lt. David, Thomas, Michael, Veronica, Bernard (Melissa), William, Matthew (Amalia), Rory and abrina; fond great grandmother of Sarah, Bernard, Molly and Monty; dear sister of the late Mary, Loretta and Florence. Helen's parents, Daniel and Ellen, were hard working people who came from Ireland at the turn of the century to raise four daughters in Chicago. Helen was always a pillar of strength. After the loss of her father in 1929 she was a source of support to her mother and sisters during the Depression. Marrying Bernard McShane during WWII she raised and cherished her five sons and their accomplishments. Her husband was wounded in WWII and through it all, Helen kept the family together. She equally enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren through the years. Helen was a good mother and most importantly a kind person.
