H. Robert Jacobs, 83, of Downers Grove, IL passed away at 6:40 pm, Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2009. Beloved husband of Grace E. Jacobs, nee Kinsey, married 53 years; devoted father of Susan K. (Robert M.) Zoelle, Richard L. Jacobs, Theresa M. (Scott A.) Beck, Robert C. (Pamela L.) Jacobs, John M. (Arlene L.) Jacobs and Thomas A. Jacobs; cherished grandfather of Marc, Bradley, Kristin, Joseph, Alexandra, Marissa, Logie, John Robert, Hannah, Clare, Rachel, Jared and Emma Grace; great-grandfather of Ryan Grace; dear brother of Richard A. (Marti) Jacobs of Ocean City, MD and Marianne J. (Patrick) Hogan of Palatine, IL; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Bob was born in Kansas City, MO and was a resident of Downers Grove for 49 years. He proudly served in WWII in the 345 Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps. A 1950 University of Illinois graduate, Bob worked 31 years for the A. J. Nystrom Company of Chicago and finished his career as a sales manager of educational materials. He was active in the community through St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, United Way and served on the Board of Education for both Districts 58 and 99. Through his Kiwanis association, he initiated a Cultural Music Exchange Program between DGSH and Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany that continues 24 years later. Bob was a leader, a man of great spiritual faith, integrity, and an inspiration to many as a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed. A Visitation was held at Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home on Monday, November 30, 2009, and the Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic Church in Downers Grove on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. The interment was held at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien, IL. A passionate supporter of education, Bob and his wife, Grace, founded the Jacobs-Kinsey Scholarship Endowment Fund in honor of Grace's father Alfred R. Kinsey. Bob made such a difference in my life. He hired me as a sales rep for Nystrom and it was the best thing that ever happened in my career. Bob loved selling in general and Nystrom in particular. We called him "Mr. Nystrom". He instilled that love in many of the people he hired. Over the years, it was amazinag how many of the successful people at Nystrom had been hired by Bob, including a future president and vice-president of the company, many of the sales managers, and numerous successful sales reps. He had an impact on our lives, and I am forever grateful for having been one of Bob's hires. You will be missed, Mr. Nystrom.

I worked with Bob at Nystrom in Chicago. I considered Bob a special person. He always had something good and uplifting to say and fostered a good team spirit. He at times gave me words of encouragement in the early years of my employment in the late 70's. I still remember seeing him on TV being interviewed at the Chicago Bears game on a very cold day. I enjoyed seeing Bob at the Nystrom Christmas parties even after he retired. He surely will be missed. Rich Barcichowski
