GLENN F. ANDERSON Glenn F. Anderson, of St. Charles and Geneva, died Wednesday, June 19, at age 95, at Presence Pine View Care Center. Glenn was born in 1917 on a farm in North Dakota. He and his family lived on five other farms before moving back to St. Charles in 1929, where he lived on his grandparent 's dairy farm (now LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve) until 1931. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1935. While in high school, Glenn began working for Colonial Dairy. His early responsibilities included washing milk bottles and making ice cream novelties. Later he was foreman of the ice cream production plant and managed distribution to Colonial restaurants and retail outlets. He served in the US Army from 1941 to 1945, primarily in Seattle, Washington (coastal defense barrage balloon battalion), and Bath, England (chaplain 's assistant and supply depot clerk). In the Army, he reached the rank of sergeant and received awards for his marksmanship, mechanical skills, and volunteer assignments. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles, where he married Violet Wilson in 1942. At Bethlehem, Glenn was assistant Sunday school superintendent for many years and served on the church council as a member of the music committee, property committee, and building committee. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife (Violet), his parents (Fritz and Mabel), six sisters (Bertha, Christabel, Ethel, Helen, Doris, and June), and one brother (LeRoy). He is survived by six children, including Christine (John) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Karen (Rob) of Glendale, California; David (Sharon) of Alpharetta, Georgia; Paul (Paula) of Ames, Iowa; Ruth of Geneva, Illinois; and Richard (Carol) of Elgin, Illinois. Glenn is survived by ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Glenn is also survived by his cousin, Melvin Peterson of St. Charles. Glenn was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, nephew, and uncle. He loved his family, church, community, and neighborhood. After retirement, Glenn spent many hours helping family members, friends, and neighbors with home and yard maintenance. He also volunteered at Bethlehem church, helping with office and maintenance tasks, daycare reading help and projects, and driving the church bus. He also volunteered in the community by delivering meals to shut-ins and working at polling places on election days. Glenn acted his faith every day in his job and while caring for his family, friends, and neighbors. He was well known and admired for singing solos at church and community functions (often accompanied by his wife), singing in Bethlehem church choir (over 75 years!), singing in several male quartets, and singing in community choruses during the holidays. In addition to music, he enjoyed traveling with friends in the Roadrunners group from Grace Lutheran Church in Lily Lake, and getting together with family and friends in small groups and at large family reunions. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 1145 N. 5th Ave. St. Charles, IL. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8:00 P.M.
