Gladys Maxey Obituary

Gladys Verna, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Saturday evening, March 23, 2002. She bravely battled pneumonia and several complications for three weeks. Gladys Verna was born Oct. 30, 1913, to Charles Ellsworth and Fannie Christina (Stephenson) Jones, in Washington, OK. She graduated from Central High School, OKC, in 1931, was married to her high school sweetheart, Eugene Leo Maxey, in Hobart, OK, on Dec. 3, 1933, and moved to the Maxey Dairy Farm west of Harrah. As a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Harrah, she was active in the WMU, taught junior boys Sunday school, and Royal Ambassadors. Later, she taught Adult Women Sunday School classes for many years. Gladys worked at Seikel's Dept. Store in Harrah, First State Bank, Harrah, and was assistant to the High School Librarian at Harrah High School. During those days and years, she was known to be loving and cheerful to all the people she served. She was especially loved by all students at Harrah High School. She was also a member of the Harrah Lioness Club. Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Howard Jones, Walter Jones, Warren Jones, and her sister, Ruth Jones Moseley. She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Eugene, Harrah; brother, Lewis Jones, Midwest City; daughter, Eugenia Ann Wiegert and husband, Wayne, Harrah; son: Robert Maxey and wife, Juanita, Harrah; grandchildren, Paul and LouAnn Wiegert, Newalla, Terri and Jeff Ward, OKC, David and Carrie Wiegert, Harrah, Mark Wiegert, Newalla, Robin and Tammy Maxey, Midwest City, Russell and Robin Lynn Maxey, Marana, AZ, Randy and Tierra Maxey, Edmond; 14 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren. When the great grandchildren came along Gladys became known to all the family as 'Great'. The name fit her perfectly. She was devoted to her husband and family and loved by everyone who knew her. She leaves many happy memories and will be missed. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Harrah, 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 27, 2002, with interment at Arlington Memory Gardens, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.
