Geraldine Marie Cload
Born: August 20, 1940 in Hammond, IN
Died: January 29, 2024 in New Port Richey, FL
Beloved wife of Fred Cload, mother of Dina (Hans) Lindemann and Steve (Tara) Cload and grandmother of Meg Lindemann and Si Lindemann.
In addition to these family members, Gerry is survived by her sister, Patricia Malacina; brother-in-law, Howard Cload; sisters-in-law, Terry Daley and Deanna McNamara; and nieces and nephews, Michele, Patrick, John, Sean, Cassidy, Sharon and Robert.
Preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Della McNamara; in-laws, Fred and Margaret Cload; brother, Paul McNamara; and many dear aunts, uncles, in-laws and cousins.
Gerry was born in Hammond and raised there with her older sister Pat and younger brother Paul. She met Fred on a blind date on March 15, 1959. They were engaged just a few weeks later and married October 17 that same year.
Fred and Gerry raised their family in Woodridge where they lived until 1989.
Gerry was at times a stay-at-home mom and also worked various clerical and retail jobs before embarking on a career at Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle. When she left the college she went to work at FermiLab, where Fred was Chief of the fire department.
When they retired, Fred and Gerry spent some years as snowbirds before settling down in New Port Richey, Florida. There they were active members of their local community, Orchid Lake RV Resort, where they lived until Gerry's passing.
Gerry was an enthusiastic, creative and devoted grandmother to Meg and Si, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally. She was wickedly smart and enjoyed playing word games. She was a gifted and prolific crafter. Gerry loved her iPhone and iPad and she never met a Facebook post she didn't like and/or comment on.
Gerry cared deeply about knowing people. She remembered everything that anyone ever told her about themselves and was quick to ask for updates on life events when she reconnected with someone.
She passed away on January 29 with her daughter Dina by her side, holding her hand and promising to take care of Fred.
