George Johnson Obituary

George E. Johnson, born December 25, 1921 in Mt. Vernon Iowa to parents Harold and Esther (Dunham) Johnson passed away. He moved to Downers Grove in 1929, graduated from DGHS in 1940 and has been the coordinator of all their reunions from that date. After graduation from high school he joined the CCC's for a 6 month term in Big Piney, Wyoming. Upon his return, he started work at Western Electric as a mill operator, retiring after 40 years. He then served as Financial Secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove for eleven years. Member of the Masonic Lodge 824 for 65 years. He is survived by is wife of 63 years, Alice (Hibner) Johnson; his son, Craig (Linda); and two grandchildren, Mark (Georgia) and Lindsay Johnson. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, David, Carl and Harold. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove. Visitation will be on June 6, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. in the parlor preceding the Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be made in his memory to the First United Methodist Church.
