Francisca Aida Saltiel

Francisca Aida Saltiel, 80, a long-time resident of Oak Brook, IL passed away September 3, 2017.

Mrs. Saltiel, daughter of Gregoria nee Garcia and Antonio Mendoza, was born June 4, 1937 in Baez Cuba. One of 13 children, she grew up in the Cuban countryside before moving to the city of Santa Clara to work as a schoolteacher.

While visiting a relative in Placetas, she met her future husband Dr. Alberto Saltiel. They were married on July 2, 1961. Together they left Cuba for New York, before moving to the Chicago suburbs where they raised seven children.

A devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, her kindness and grace enriched the lives of everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Alberto; children, Rebecca Busch, Albert (Susan) Saltiel, Frances (Tom) Riek, Linda Saltiel, Lisa Saltiel, Lynna (Jonathan) Smith and Joseph (Michelle) Saltiel; and 16 grandchildren, Samantha, Andrew, Alberto, Mary Margaret, Christopher, Elizabeth, Gabriella, Kathryn, Jacquelyn, Sophia, Benjamin, Andreas, AJ, Madeline, Zachary, and Abigail. She is also survived by her siblings, Maria, Felipe, Minervo, Jose, Elia, Roman, Ricarda; and many loving extended family members and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Reina, Hilaria, Rosa, Ramona; and brother, Jacinto.

She will be buried at a private ceremony at Bronswood Cemetery, Oak Brook IL. There will be a Memorial Visitation on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst.
