Florence Schoppe Obituary

Florence M. Schoppe, nee Landmeier, 95, most recently of Batavia, IL and a former resident of West Chicago since 1950, passed away Friday, October 31, 2008.; She was born July 12, 1913 in Bensenville, IL and was raised there also. Florence grew up on the family farm in the Bensenville area where she attended school at St. John's Church where she was baptized and confirmed. On September 25, 1937, she was united in marriage to Roger Schoppe who attended the same school and church. They made their home with Roger's family and lived on the family farm on the site that today is O'Hare airport. In February of 1950 they bought a 120 acre farm on Roosevelt Rd. (Rte. 38) in West Chicago. On their retirement, they moved their house into town after selling the farm. Florence loved farm life, cooking, baking, teaching ceramics, working, volunteering, flowers, church, friends and family. She took great pride in all of them. She was a faithful member of St. Michael's United Church of Christ in West Chicago. She is survived by her two daughters, Darlene (Ronald) Schmidt and Karen (Paul) Brooks; her grandchildren, Debra (Robert) Selga, Roger Schmidt, Troy (Lynn) Brooks, Tara (James) Bider, Tanya (Dennis) Greco and Tia Brooks; her great-grandchildren, Jeremy (Kerri) Schmidt, Robert (Lindsay) Selga II, Jaymie Schmidt, Traci and Kathryn Selga, Chase and Broden Bider, William Greco, and Taylor Brooks; her great-great-grandchildren, Alissa Garcia and Dane and Kayla Selga; and her sister Lorraine (Alvin) Rickert. She was preceded in death by her husband Roger in 1994, of fifty-seven years; her brother, Wilbert (the late Bertha) Landmeier; and her sisters, Mildred (the late Henry) Schoo, Erma (the late Ben) Schoppe, Alice (the late Fred) Pollworth, and Lydiea (the late Harold) Schulze. Williams-Woodward Funeral Home, 820 Pine St., West Chicago (Rt. 59 & Pine Sts.) A funeral service was held Monday, November 3, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Williams-Woodward Funeral Home, West Chicago. Sympathies to the family and loved ones of Florence. I have many great memories of Florence and Roger at my grandparent's (Wesley & Lucille) parties. What a great group of friends & family they were to each other. I will always remember them laughing, playing cards and having alot of fun together.
