Eva Smith Obituary

EVA WORTHEN SMITH passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2006. Eva was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Falvey Smith and by her son, Roscoe F. Smith, Jr (Buddy). She is survived by son, Charles F. Smith and daughter, Michele Johnson and husband Bobby. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Terrell Smith, Scott Smith, Angela Johnson, and Caroline Johnson, and by four great-grandchildren: Aricka Rohrman, Aaron Smith, Alex Smith and Riley Piper. Eva was born in 1922 in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Milby High School in 1940 and attended Texas Woman's University. At Milby she was a member of the Co-Ed Cadets and the star of her Senior class play. She married her high school sweetheart, Falvey Smith, on December 31, 1942. Falvey was stricken with polio in 1952 resulting in his complete paralysis. Never to be defeated, he and Eva, supported by their vast number of friends and their strong faith in God, were able to establish a successful insurance business, which they operated from their home for over 35 years. Eva and Falvey attended Faith Presbyterian Church every Sunday and it was there they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary during a Sunday morning service. Eva had a quick step, a bright smile and an infectious laugh. In fact, you could find her in the grocery store every Tuesday just by listening for her laugh. Eva loved entertaining and frequently hosted parties, bridge parties, church meetings, and Spanish classes in her home. Eva's fun spirited nature is perhaps best portrayed by the fact that, rather than quietly waving goodbye to her family upon departure, she would flash a smile and do a high kick on the front porch followed by a big wave! Through her tireless and loving dedication to Falvey, she taught all who knew her that for every problem God provides the solution and that life is meant to be enjoyed! Eva was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2006 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2301 South Houston Road, Pasadena, Texas (phone 713-473-3663). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Eva's memory to Faith Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 4146, Pasadena, Texas 77502. Eva and I have been friends since we were eight years old. I have so many woderful memories that it is hard to pick just one. One of the best that comes to mind is line dancing with her every Wednesday afternoon, and we did !!! kick up our heels. I will miss her very, very much and I will always cherish our friendship.

Eva always made my day whenever I saw her. She was sweet, loving and taught me that you can do anything. Falvey was the same. They will be missed by their friends as well as their family. God Bless Hermenia Dunn
