Ernest Sinclair Obituary

Ernest David Sinclair, born December 15, 1914, Chicago, IL, a longtime resident of Elmhurst, IL and winter resident of Naples, FL passed away. Mr. Sinclair was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eleanore, in 2000. The longtime family home on Prospect Street is now the site of the Elmhurst Public Library where a memorial tree was planted in Eleanore's memory. Beloved father of Donald Sinclair of Oceanside, CA: Beth Archibald (Bruce) of Chautauqua, NY, Deborah Coolidge (James) of Elgin, IL, E. David Sinclair (Laura) of Petersburg, IL. Grandfather of Brian Archibald, Ann Archibald Stark, Shannon Sinclair, Scot Sinclair, Logan Coolidge. Great-grandfather of Austin, Shannon, Samuel, Eleanore, and Andrew. Also survived by his sister, Barbara Naumann of Phoenix, Arizona Mr. Sinclair was an Industrial Engineer, having worked during World War II in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Argus Industries while attending the University of Michigan. After the war, he moved his family to Elmhurst, IL where he continued to work for many years as an engineer in Chicago. After his retirement, he consulted for companies throughout the midwest. Mr. Sinclair was active in the Elmhurst Kiwanis Club and was instrumental in bringing the YMCA father-daughter Indian Princesses organization to the Elmhurst community. He also helped plan and create the fountain along the Prairie Bike/walking path in collaboration with the Lion's Club of Elmhurst. Ernie also owned and operated one of the first "drive-in" restaurants, the Blue Bunny, in the 1950's. He had been a member of Yorkfield Presbyterian Church since the early 1950's. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in memory of Ernie. There will be a private graveside service for the family. The Rev. Dr. Bruce Archibald will officiate.
